October 3rd – Day 1 of 28 of the Australia circumnavigation cruise.
It is was a bright sunny day in Sydney. After a quick breakfast we pack our belongings, a quick double-check that nothing was left behind we leave the Meriton suites hotel and make our way to the train station with baggage in tow. Once there we navigate to the platform using the variety of lifts available and swiping our Opal cards when necessary. Arriving at Circular Quay we disembark the train using lifts to leave the train platforms.
We then made our way over to the cruise terminal making note that our ship was in port. Here we made short work of getting rid of our main baggage and quickly got into line as we noted a tour bus had arrived.
Inside we had a series of stops to make with the first being Australian Customs. This was odd as we were not entering Australia nor leaving Australia so it is a moment that we have not figured out. Everything worked out and we were on to the next stop, security. This was a normal process, but it is still unclear as to the ultimate purpose of this security check, of course, its the alcohol check stop.
Finally, we are making our way on-board the ship. We enter at the stern as this is roughly where our staterooms are. Since we have the keys we make our way to the stateroom and check things out leaving behind carry-on bags in the room.
Time to explore the ship starting with the buffet. The food available is varied and plentiful. I won’t describe what we had for lunch partly because that was 4 days ago and after just having an afternoon snack as of the day this is written meaning I can’t remember. Next up is getting prepared for our 7:45 dinner seating followed by entertainment in the main theatre.
