Spain – Malaga

Málaga (/ˈmæləɡə/; Spanish: [ˈmalaɣa]) is a municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. With a population of 591,637 in 2024, it is the second-most populous city in Andalusia and the sixth most populous in the country. It lies in Southern Iberia on the Costa del Sol (“Coast of the Sun”) of the Mediterranean, primarily in the left bank of the Guadalhorce. The urban core originally developed in the space between the Gibralfaro Hill and the Guadalmedina.

For this trip, we decided to take a different approach to planning—letting someone else handle the details. Similar to our journey to Newfoundland & Labrador last year, we opted for a pre-arranged package, but this time, instead of moving from place to place, we’re staying in one location and taking excursions from there.

We found a long-stay package through The Travel Lady and worked with them to finalize the details. The package includes our hotel stay, round-trip airfare with KLM, and all necessary transfers. Budget-wise, it fit well, even allowing us to upgrade to KLM’s Comfort Plus for extra legroom and better meal options. The only downside? We still had to share washrooms with the economy cabin—which, as we learned on a previous trip to Croatia, can be an experience in itself!

Our flight with KLM was smooth—an 8.5-hour journey and our first time flying with them. Overall, a great experience aside from the minor issue mentioned earlier.

As for this trip, everything was included in the booking except for the cost of excursions and Ubers to and from Calgary airport. Now, let the adventure begin!

Best Regards,

Bill & Joan
