Darling Harbour was our destination today. Well within walking distance as viewed from the 42nd floor of our hotel was Darling Harbour. The harbour is a very popular tourist and resident spot to stop for lunch or catch a ferry to other locations. But before we actually got there we found another Kathmandu as well as another MEC type store that we could shop in. Before arriving at Darling harbour, we encountered a very large playground called Tumbalong Park geared towards children of all ages. It appears that the Ibis has turned into a scavenging bird as there were several picking through scraps around the area.
The Chemist store!! While wandering around we stumbled upon a very well-stocked drug store. Diane, Keith, and Joan went inside while I waited outside snapping a few pictures of the front of the store as well as ones up and down the street. I did go and peek inside the shop but as there was not much room inside I quickly exited, lots of people.
Our destination for the evening was the Sydney Opera house, but, beforehand we stopped at a waterfront craft beer bar called Buckley’s Craft Beer Bar for dinner. While the meals were enjoyable what made the dining experience less than enjoyable was the constant monitoring of the seagulls who like to hang around your feet of directly overhead sitting on the umbrellas waiting for you to look away to jump down and steal something from your plate. And hopefully, avoid some poop from falling on your plate as well.
Well, we completed dinner successfully as the sunset to the west and without any further action for the seagulls. We slowly wandered over to the Sydney Opera House it is a grand building that took from 1959 through until 1973 to build the full structure. The full Wiki story of the design and build is at this link. We had purchased tickets to the West Side Story prior to the trip so all we had to do was to stop at the box office and pick them up. We were advised not to take any pictures but I could not resist taking a couple of the stage and seating before the performance started. The actual performance was somewhat underwhelming.
